IPMA and Green Project Management Establish formal Cooperation Agreement

Monday May 25th Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Detroit, USA

Sustainability is an increasingly important aspect of project management. This is why the IPMA (International Project Management Association) and GPM Global (Green Project Management) have signed an Alliance Agreement. Through the agreement both parties agree and affirm to strengthen the profession of project management in general, support collaboration on sustainability in project management (e.g. through an information exchange, joint research initiatives, joint workshops, or other kinds of exchange on national, regional or international level), support education and training specialized on aspects of sustainability based on the IPMA ICB in the current version on national, regional and  / or international level (e.g. under the umbrella of the IPMA Registration Programme), and elaborate on the possibilities of joint activities in the area of certification and / or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), especially focusing on the sustainability in project management, using available know-how and resources to the benefit of both associations.

Both organisations compliment each other. IPMA is a non-profit, membership-based organisation with 58 associations around the world. Its mission is to facilitate co-creation and lever the diversity of our global network into benefits for the profession, economy, society and environment (www.ipma.ch). Green Project Management is a certified social enterprise that spans 145 countries and territories.  Its mission is to decouple socio-environmental degradation from economic growth on a global scale by advancing awareness, adoption and implementation of responsible management practices in support of sustainable development and the UN Global Compact’s ten principles.(www.greenprojectmanagement.org).

A few days ago, both organisations presented at the launch of the national award program of MAPM Malaysian Association of Project Management on project achievements and sustainability. Reinhard Wagner, the President of IPMA, mentioned in his presentation the collaboration (between IPMA and Green Project Management) and expressed, that “it is especially important in the Asian-Pacific Region, to strive for project excellence. This alliance agreement enables the development of sustainable solutions for projects and programmes throughout the world.”

Green Project Management President Joel Carboni stated  “Collaborating with like-minded organizations increases our ability to advance sustainable practices on a global scale. We look forward to opportunities to create shared value to advance professionalism together with IPMA.”
