Research is an essential aspect of any profession and IPMA´s mission is to provide a link between research communities and IPMA members. This overall objective is achieved by participating in a variety of research events, by organizing research conferences, seminars and workshops with a specific focus as well as facilitating research activities across the IPMA Family. On top of that, we recognise research excellence through a programme of Research Awards and encourage researchers by providing prizes for research papers at conferences.

Vice President Research
Lixiong Ou (China)
Professor Lixiong Ou is the Director of Project Management Education Programs at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) located in Xi’an, China. He is also the standing deputy director of International Project Management Institute at NPU and has been a deputy Dean of Management School of NPU for eight years. He is now the Executive Vice President of Project Management Research Committee, China (PMRC) which is a member association of International Project Management Association (IPMA®), Vice President of IPMA®, the Head of China Certificate Body of IPMA® Certification, IPMA Delta® Manager and First assessor in China, and First assessor of IPMA® Certification for PM Consultant in China. His research interests include Programme Management, Portfolio Management, Management by Projects, Project Management Maturity Model and Project Management Body of Knowledge, etc.. He maintains involvement in project management practice through International Project Management Institute of NPU, working nationally with leading corporations and government agencies interested in improving their project management capability. He has been engaged in the development of the Chinese Project Management Body of Knowledge (CPMBOK) as team leader since the late 1990s and has published three versions of CPMBOK which is the PM Knowledge Baseline for IPMA Four Level Certification and PM Education Programs in China. He has almost 25 years experience with project management consulting and training in different industry areas. Since 2005, he acted as a consultant for the Shenzhou Spaceship Programme of China. From 2006 to 2010, he served as an advisor for the preparation programme for World Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
Dr. Helgi Thor Ingason is a professor at the University of Reykjavik. He is the head of the MPM – Master in Project Management – program at the university. The research fields of Dr. Ingason range from quality- and project management to system dynamics and renewable energy, production, transport and utilization, changes in the energy infrastructure and energy carriers of the future. Helgi Thor Ingason holds a PhD in process metallurgy from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), MSc in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Iceland and a Stanford Advanced Project Management Certification from Stanford University. He is an IPMA Certified Senior Project Manager (B level). Dr. Ingason has reported on his research at conferences and in several reviewed conference and journal papers. He is the co-author of 6 books in the Icelandic language on project management, strategic planning, product development and quality management. He is also a co-author of the book “Project ethics”, published by Gower in January 2013. Dr. Ingason was interim CEO of Orkuveita Reykjavikur (Reykjavik Energy) from 2010 to 2011. A co-founder of Nordica Consulting Group, Dr. Ingason is a management consultant and a recognized speaker.
Dr. Yvonne Schoper is professor for International Project Management at HTW University of Applied Sciences Berlin. Her special research interests are intercultural project management, future trends in project management, women in project management and the further development of the profession of project managers. Dr. Schoper was educated in Germany, UK and France. She has a BSc in Engineering Management, an MSc International Business and a PhD in Industrial Engineering. Dr. Schoper worked as a project manager for BMW where she was responsible for several international automotive development projects in USA and in Germany. Since 2009 she is associate Professor for Project Management at the Tongji University in Shanghai (China). Dr. Schoper is the author of several publications e.g. on the macroeconomic measurement of the project economy in Germany, on dealing with uncertainty in projects, or of the bi-annual career and income survey of project managers in Germany. From 2012-2015 she was Executive Board Member of GPM, IPMA Germany where she is responsible for the area of research. Since 2015 she is the delegate of Germany in the IPMA Council of Delegates. Since 2016 she is member of the presendial advisory board of GPM.
Sharovara Olena is an assistant at the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture, Project Management Master Degree Program. The research fields of interests of Sharovara Olena are Program and Project Management Innovations. She is an IPMA Certified (C level) and P2M Competency Honor Certified (Intermediate level of P2M competency); is an active IPMA member since 1999, ex-vice –president of Young Crew (Ukraine), since 2007 active assessor of International Project Excellence Award.

The IPMA Research PMO is responsible for: coordination and assessment process for Research awards, including Applicants papers collection, Jury coordination and communication and final Winner announcement and Award. It is a first contact for potential applicants and those who are interested in the Research Award. Additionally, the IPMA Research PMO supports organization and coordination of annual IPMA Research Conference.
