The IPMA Award Management Board (AMBo) focuses on advancing countries/regions to be positive IPMA contributors and contenders in the IPMA International Project Excellence Award contests at national, regional and international levels. This board fosters a distinctive performance, competition and learning as this attracts, retains and adds value to our stakeholders.

The mission of the AMBo is to facilitate IPMA Family members as instrumental partners in the development and promotion of project management towards Project Excellence with regard to individuals, teams, organisations in the respective direct and indirect environments.

IPMA Award Office

Please contact the Award Office with any questions regarding the IPMA International Project Excellence Award, IPMA Research Award as well as IPMA Achievement Awards.

The Award Office is responsible for: coordination of the marketing and assessment process for all awards, including organization of the assessors training, assessors’ team composition, preparation of the Jury and final reports. It is a first contact for the current and potential applicants and those who are interested in the Project Excellence Model. Additionally, the Award Office supports the establishment of the national Project Excellence Awards and Achievement Awards.

IPMA Award PMO Director

Ewa Bednarczyk has run the Award Office since 2007. In years 2010-2012 she served as SPMP (IPMA-Poland) Vice President responsible for the Polish Project Excellence Award. Ewa graduated from the Cracow University of Economics and Avans Hogeschool in Breda. She is an IPMA Level-D® and PRINCE2® Foundation certificates holder.

aw_DingDr. Prof. Ding Ronggui (China)

Dr. Prof. Ding Ronggui is the director of Project Management Institute in Shandong University, China. He is a vice president of Beijing Project Management Association, and has been teaching project management for EMBA  and EDP and MPM (Master of Project Management) students in universities in China, UK and Italy for more than 10 years. Because of his outstanding research outputs, he was honoured as an excellent talent by China Ministry of Education in 2007. Since 2006, Dr Ding has been an IPMA Award Assessor/Team Lead Assessor and assessed projects in Germany, Russia, Italy, Iran, etc. He was a member of the IPMA Award Management Board (AMBo) from 2007 to 2012, and has re-joined AMBo from 2014. He is also a member of PMI Global Accreditation Committee for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) in China, and the chairman of China Project Management Education Union.

Pau Lian Staal-Ong (The Netherlands)

Pau Lian is senior consultant at AT Osborne B.V., an independent management and consultancy firm in the Netherlands. Since 1999 she has been working for principals in the areas of large infrastructure projects as well as for principals in mostly the public environment. Pau Lian helps organisations during change processes, fulfils positions in the field of quality management, carries out audits and (project) evaluations and delivers lectures and training. In addition, her work week centres on the NETLIPSE programme ( that focuses on gathering and discussing good practices and lesson learnt on the management and organisation of large infrastructure projects in Europe. Pau Lian is NETLIPSE Programme Director. Since 2007 Pau Lian has been involved as (lead) assessor of the IPMA Project Excellence Awards. In 2011 she helped initiate the Project Excellence Awards scheme in the Netherlands and acts as one of the Assessor trainers and co-author of the first edition of the IPMA Project Excellence Baseline (2014-2015). 

Gholamreza Safakish, MSc, PMP (Iran)
Gholamreza was a professional project manager who participated as project and project engineering manager in several international upstream oil field development and petrochemical projects. He has also experiences as a consultant with EPC contractors in Oil & Gas, Power and Steel plants. He delivers seminars, lectures and training courses covering a wide range of project management topics especially Communication and HR Management. As a freelance consultant, he also assists the project driven firms to adapt and improve their current methodologies. He joined IPMA since 2006 and was a Member of Tehran’s BOD and General Secretary since 2009. He is the president of national award program since 2010.

Diego Arimany is a serial-entrepreneur by nature and a project management & transformation consultant to senior executives the last 20 years. Diego is a servant leader in the development and execution of mission-critical Programs and Projects within organizations, across disciplines and industries, with experience operating internationally. He enjoys working with Social-entrepreneurs, Startups, Business transformation, and Projects in developing countries. Mr. Arimany attained a B.Sc. in Marketing and Managing Information Systems and holds an M.A. in Organizational Change & Development; he has received post-graduate courses in economics, leadership, and negotiations in US and European universities. Diego is PMO Director of Dintersa consulting in multinational and multicultural projects, but he also enjoys giving back to the community and currently serves as Director of the Certification Body of IPMA Guatemala, Director of Startup Grind Guatemala, and as of 2015, member of the IPMA Awards Management Board, and candidate to represent Latin America to the ISO/TC 258 PP&P Management board.


Dr. Les Squires (USA)

Dr. Squires’ middle name is Collaboration. Equipped with a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Columbia University, Teachers College, serving for 15 years on the 32,000 member Boston Computer Society, and having served as CEO of a Boston-based application development company for 30 years, he blends what makes for successful information technology projects and successful organizational development. Most recently Dr. Squires has been field testing social networking approaches in the U.S., Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, China, Nepal, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Poland, Crete, and South Africa. He has successfully implemented custom installations of Google Drive, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Ning in such disciplines as project management, alternative currencies, conference planning and community building.  In his capacity as a member of the Awards Management Board of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), he regularly presents hands-on training sessions at international conferences promoting the use of social networking in the 60 member countries of the IPMA, corporations and other organizations. He is currently designing and implementing the IPMA Knowledge Base to make searchable 10+ years of IPMA World Congress presentations on project management.

Grzegorz is a strategic and project management advisor, trainer and coach who brings international experience and passion for projects to many organizations worldwide. He is involved in the International PE Award since 2005 when he became an assessor, and later a Team Lead Assessor. In these roles he has assessed various large and mega projects in Asia, both Americas and Europe. As a leading author of the current assessors training program, Grzegorz became an official PE assessors trainer in 2009. He was also a member of the IPMA Awards Management Board (2011-2014) and a Leading Editor of the first edition of the IPMA Project Excellence Baseline (2014-2015). He has contributed to the development of national Project Excellence Awards in Poland and Nepal. His main expertise includes strategic projects portfolio management, project governance, deployment of agile methods and recovering control in troubled projects. He is also teaching strategy and project management in a number of MBA and postgraduate programs.

Michael held management and project management positions in international companies. Today he is a consultant, trainer and coach and works with customers on conceptual and operative assignments. He is also teaching project management in Master and postgraduate programs. Michael has a background in business administration and earned a MA in systemic consulting. He is certified in Project Management by IPMA and APMG (UK). He has been active in assessing PE awards for more than 10 years in different roles, including the running of the National PE Award in Germany for 4 years. He has brought this experience to the IPMA Awards as assessor and Lead assessor from 2008 including training assessors for the last 5 years. In these roles he has assessed various large and mega projects in Asia and Europe. He was also a member of the IPMA Awards Management Board (2011-2014) and a Co-author of the first edition of the IPMA Project Excellence Baseline (2014-2015). He also contributed to the development of the national Project Excellence Awards in Germany.
